-- OUR JOURNEY
Welcome!
Straight Gate grew from something deeply personal: our belief that no one should have to walk through recovery, family struggles, or life’s hardest seasons alone. Between us, we bring decades of professional experience—and our own lived experiences of hardship, healing, faith, and new beginnings.

We understand that reaching out can feel difficult. That’s why we’ve worked to create a place where people are welcomed without judgment, treated with dignity, and reminded that change is always possible. Wherever you are in your journey, we’re glad you found us, and we want you to know there is a place at the Roundtable for you.

How did we get here?
An Idea Nearly 40 Years in the Making.
The story of 12-2-1 Roundtables began nearly 40 years ago, inspired by the Stages of Change and a growing understanding that meaningful change cannot be forced. People change when they're ready, often through honest conversations, personal reflection, and discovering their own reasons for doing things differently.
Over the decades, through counseling, treatment programs, and working with young men in a juvenile correctional facility, that idea continued to develop. Experience reinforced a simple truth: thoughtful questions and genuine connections often accomplish more than lectures and advice. The concept quietly marinated for years, waiting for the right opportunity.
Then came COVID-19. Suddenly, traditional face-to-face counseling and groups were no longer possible. Rather than simply moving conventional treatment online, the challenge became creating something entirely different—an engaging, interactive approach built around thoughtful and intentional questions, conversation, connection, and personal responsibility.
And so, in 2020, 12-2-1 Roundtables was born.
What began as a response to an unprecedented challenge grew into the foundation of 12-2-1 Roundtables, a West Virginia nonprofit serving individuals, couples, and families through meaningful conversations and structured programs.
Now, nearly four decades later, the original belief remains unchanged: lasting change begins within the individual, and sometimes all it takes is the right question, an honest conversation, and a place where you belong.
There is a place at the table for you.
